About First Coast Explorer

An independent travel guide to Florida's First Coast. Written by locals, built for visitors. No tour bus required.

What This Is

First Coast Explorer is an independent guide to the Atlantic coast from Savannah and Brunswick, Georgia south through Florida's First Coast — Jacksonville Beach, St. Augustine, and the communities between. It is one of the most historically significant, naturally diverse, and underrated stretches of coastline on the entire Eastern Seaboard.

It covers the places worth visiting: the 350-year-old coquina fort that was never taken by force, the craft brewery that's been pouring since 2009, the tidal creek preserve that most people who live five minutes away have never found, and the grouper sandwich that locals drive specifically for. Editorial coverage is based on quality and first-hand research. Featured placement opportunities are available separately for businesses that meet our standards — editorial recommendations and featured programs are always kept independent of each other.

"The First Coast is not a theme park. It is a city, a coastline, and a set of ecosystems that have been here for 460 years. We write about it like that."

What We Cover

The guide currently spans Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Vilano Beach, and St. Augustine — with coverage expanding north to Brunswick and Savannah, Georgia as the site grows. Every page is built around one standard: does it tell you something you couldn't find in thirty seconds on another site? If not, it doesn't publish.

Pages are built from first-hand visits, verified current information, and the kind of specific detail that only comes from actually being there — the parking situation on a Saturday in October, which direction the pier faces at sunset, what to order and what to skip. The writing has a voice because places have character and bland prose doesn't do them justice.

Some links on First Coast Explorer are affiliate links — if you book a tour, reserve a table, or find a hotel through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

This never influences what we recommend. If a place is on this site, it earned its spot on its own merits. We don't accept payment for placement, we don't take sponsored content, and we don't recommend places we wouldn't send our own friends to.

The affiliate relationships we maintain are with reputable travel booking platforms — Viator for tours and experiences, OpenTable for restaurant reservations, and Booking.com for accommodations. These partnerships help keep the site running and the content free.
